RUNNING FOR EVERYBODY
There is a common myth that to be able to run you have to be thin and fit and nothing could be further from the truth. Running is easy to start the only real expense being a decent pair of running shoes which have been professionally fitted. Wear comfortable fitted clothes made from technical moisture wicking material which are close fitted but not tight, a sports bra is a must and avoid trousers that flap around your ankles. USA PRO have a great range of inexpensive kit.
Most women when starting out quite simply try to do too much too soon with the result that the recovery period is far too long and far too uncomfortable! The trick when starting is to combine a 30 minute walk and run programme. Alternate between walking at a brisk pace and jogging at a comfortable pace. Do this 3 times per week. Each week reduce the amount of time you spend walking by one minute and increase the time you spend running by one minute.
Eventually you will be able to run for the full 30 minutes. Thereafter you can vary the pace and distance to suit whatever your training goals are.
A note of caution, if you have any health concerns consult your doctor before you start and always think safe. Well lit and populated routes are best if you are on your own or better still hook up with friends or join one the many running clubs around the UK.
