Tennis

Like so many other sports, Tennis is a great way of developing not just your physical fitness but also your social life. Joining a club is a great way of meeting people, getting involved in tournaments & practising your game without having to own a court! Playing singles is a great way to really develop your game & discover areas of weakness that can be improved. Playing doubles tends to be a bit faster in the rallies & is a great way to play with your friends at the weekend or after work. Tennis clubs often orchestrate ladders or knock-out tournaments to get involved with & add a competitive edge to your exercise regime, no matter what your standard. Failing that, book a court at the leisure centre & enjoy!

Tennis Health Benefits

The positive gains from tennis are rich. Depending on your ability, the game is quick & will significantly increase your agility & dexterity. You will absorb the usual cardio-vascular benefits from intensive workouts, but will also improve your hand-eye coordination & soon become nimble & quick footed around the court. Doing so you will manage to burn off a terrifically high amount of calories to keep you looking as good as you feel.

Preparing for Tennis

In terms of hazards, tennis is relatively safe but various risks do exist. Good supportive footwear should be worn to deter any rolling ankles or rubbing. Whilst playing for long periods in the midday sun, watch out for UV rays by wearing high factor sun cream, a hat & take regular breaks to take on water. Always warm up & stretch properly to loosen up the body. That way it is less likely to suffer from common injuries such as tennis elbow & knee strains. With a bit of preparation, tennis is a wonderful game to enjoy whilst getting increasingly fit & agile on the court.
