Cycling
Cycling is a fantastic way to fitness which is not only satisfying but fun to do. The traditional approach is to jump on a road bike & pedal a few kilometres before hitting the showers. However, lest we forget the fun side & the more adventurous! Heading out for a bike ride with friends or family is a great social activity & a great way to see your area, whether at home or on holiday. Also, another avenue to explore is off-roading. For the adrenaline junkies out there the mountain biking scene is a great way to get fit whilst taking on nature & bunny hopping over it!
Cycling Benefits
Whatever approach you chose, from the more sedate to the extreme, cycling is a great way to get fit & stay fit. Efficiently working your heart & lungs, cycling dramatically improves your cardio-vascular condition & gets blood pumping around your body which can only be a good thing. Having taken up cycling for a while you will soon notice your stamina increases, your lungs can suck in more oxygen & your fitness levels sky rocket. With Tour de France riders like Lance Armstrong being some of the fittest athletes in the world, it is a great example to follow.
Correct Cycling Preparations
A few things to remember: cycling, like any sport can be dangerous if certain precautions are not followed. Use your head: always wear a helmet - there is no point in taking any risks with your skull. Helmet design is now extremely impressive & they are super comfy, very well ventilated & look very cool indeed. Also, always wear bright & noticeable clothing so you do not blur into the background. If someone does not see you on the road, they might not have time to adapt in difficult circumstances. Finally, if riding in the dark, use front & rear lights. You would not drive without lights so stay visible! Once these elementary rules are followed, you can concentrate on enjoying your ride, whatever the pace & whatever the conditions.
